I call this dish "The Pity Pizza". Sounds depressing if not delicious?! Then let me tell you a little bit of the background. During my stay in Tokyo, I realized how difficult it was for me to cook (little space, things in Japanese, etc.) and I love pizza. Tokyo is very expensive and so I had to "invent" a way to make pizza at home with very limited facilities and ingredients that I had. So here it goes.
Ingredients:
Bread
Cheeze slices
Pizza/Pasta sauce
For toppings (everything is optional):
Tomatoes
Onions
Mashrooms
Olives
Green pepper
Any other topping that you like
Method:
Spread the sauce on the bread slices like jam. Put a slice of cheeze slice on each bread (or two if you want extra-cheeze!). You can optionally sprinkle some spices if you have (I used to put some ground pepper sometimes). Cut your vegetables in small pieces and spread them on the top (you won't have much room for lots of them). That's it. Now the actual baking goes according to what you have. I had a small grill and so I used to toss it under that grill, but you could use anything else that would generate heat. Make sure the source of heat is on the top side so that cheeze can melt and the other toppings can cook properly.
Depending on the source of the heat and the intensity, it would take 2-5 minutes to get done. And then you'd be ready to enjoy the Pity Pizza!!
Of course, you can improvise this based on what you have, but the point is that it's possible to get something like pizza with very limited resources (think of doing it in your dormroom!).
Enjoy!
